Qatari Attorney General Meets President Barrow

Dr. Ali Bin Fetais Al Marri, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the State of Qatar paid a courtesy visit to President Barrow at the State House in Banjul on Friday, February 22, 2019.
The Qatari delegation was accompanied to the State House by the Minister for Foreign Minister, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, Dr. Momodou Tangara. They held closed door discussions with President Barrow and the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Aboubacarr Tambadou.

In his meeting with his guest, the President expressed appreciation to the support Qatar continues to provide to The Gambia. He assured them of the support of The Gambia government to the Emir and the people of Qatar, maintaining that The Gambia will continue to be friends.
Qatar had recently provided a $3Million grant for The Gambia’s transitional justice process. They are currently funding the training of 12 candidates from the Ministry of Justice, the Police, and Judiciary to undergo training in cybercrime and anti-corruption in Qatar.

The Gambian counterpart of the visiting Qatari government official, Hon. Aboubacarr Tambadou, who recently visited Qatar as a Special Envoy of President Adama Barrow, praised the efforts of Qatar as The Gambia cannot cater for all the different mechanisms that were engaged as part of the transitional justice process.

“Qatar has been extremely helpful to The Gambia across many sectors. Hence the visit of the Attorney General today is to further demonstrate the continuous commitment of Qatar to The Gambia as it navigates this very difficult transitional period… to see to Gambia’s success in the transition from dictatorship to democracy,” Minister Tambadou said.
