Gambia, China sign protocol on debt relief

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Ousainou Darboe, Monday signed a protocol on debt relief between the Republic of The Gambia and People’s Republic of China.

The Chinese deputy Minister of Commerce, Mr Qian Keming, signed on behalf of the Government of China.

Also on Tuesday, Minister Darboe held bilateral discussions with the Foreign Affairs Minister of China, Wang Yi.

The meeting witnessed the signing ceremony of a cooperation document which validates the two brotherly countries’ efforts to work in diverse areas. Hon Darboe reiterated The Gambia’s interest to further cement ties of cooperation with China. He said The Gambia is glued to one-China policy, noting that the country sees Taiwan part of China.

The Chinese Foreign Minister hosted a launch in honour of the visiting Gambian Foreign Minister and delegation. The trip availed Hon Darboe the opportunity to meet and discuss with key leaders in the private sector – including the president of Exim Bank, Mr Sun Ping, State Councillor, Yang Jiechi and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of private companies among others.
