President Adama Barrow received the opposition leader of The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) at his office in Fajara yesterday.

Honourable Mama Kandeh said that it was normal that he visit the Head of State because he is a citizen and President Adama Barrow is his president. He told reporters that whenever he had anything to discuss concerning the nation he should feel free to do so with the President.

Mr. Kandeh denied taking sides in the recent Kanilai incident. He said he had condemned both sides and asked the government to table the issues for discussion in-order to find solutions.

He added his expectations for the new administration were very high and he called on the government to work on the change for which Gambians had voted. He emphasised that the government needed time to be able to settle down but should also not waste any more time.

Mr. Kandeh and President Barrow discussed important issues including nation building. He said he expected the government to be in touch him for consultations whenever necessary.

On the relationship between the opposition and the government, Mr. Kandeh concluded that the former government had never been opposition friendly, and this was the very reason why Gambians had yearned for change which they finally got.
