Her Excellency, First lady Fatoummatta Bah-Barrow has on Friday presented food items to Mile II and Jeshwang prisons, Serrekunda Hospital, and Tanka Tanka psychiatric hospital in Salagi.

The donation which was done through her Foundation - Fatoumatta Bah Barrow Foundation (FABB), was part of the foundation’s humanitarian assistance efforts for the needy and vulnerable in society.
Senior Communication Officer of the FABB Foundation, Ms Betty Saine, in her opening remarks said the donation is a testimony of the First Lady’s commitment to the welfare of all Gambians, adding that the selection of the prisons is to express to the inmates that they are not forgotten and are still considered valuable members of the society.

Director General of The Gambia Prison Services, Mr. Ansumana Manneh hailed the First Lady for the kind gesture while assuring that the food items will serve the intended purpose. “These donations will complement the Prison Services drive towards providing improved nutritious diets to the inmates”, he added.

At the Mile II State Central Prison, officials from the Interior Ministry and senior prison service cadre witnessed the presentation.

Similar Presentations were done at the Jeshwang Prison and Tanka-Tanka Psychiatric Hospital in Salagi. The First lady and her team also visited the Serrekunda Mother and Child hospital, where similar donations were made for the hospitals in -patients feeding program. A board member of the hospital, Mr Coker described First Lady Barrow as a true friend of the hospital who is committed to helping the health sector, revealing that was not the first of such donations. ”This donation will lift a huge burden on the hospital as we strive to provide not only health care but quality feeding to our patients”.

Acting CEO FABB, Fatou Ceesay said the foundation is a charitable organization that looks for funding and render humanitarian services to the public, particularly the vulnerable in society. She said the Foundation since inception in 2017 has been embarking on such gestures and will continue to do so as part of its relief program for the needy.

The First Lady was in the company of the staff of FABB foundation and her office at the Presidency.
