President Barrow Receives Courtesy Call from Tony Blair Institute for Global Change

President Adama Barrow yesterday met with members of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. The group paid him a courtesy call in his office in Fajara.

Team leader and Executive Director, Effective Governance, The Right Honourable Jim Murphy explained that the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change was a non-profit company operating across nine countries in Africa and with over twenty years of experience supporting new governments.

Mr. Murphy said the Institute was pleased to offer its support to The Gambia. He said the world had taken notice of the country for several reasons, most notably because it had ended a prolonged period of dictatorship. He added that Gambians had paid a difficult and painful price to ensure that the 22years of dictatorship came to an end, and they should be applauded for the smooth transfer of power.

Mr. Murphy pledged the Institute’s support, saying it could play a vital role in the socio-economic development of The Gambia, especially in the areas of power and energy, and most importantly in its socio-economic development and job creation for the youth.

At an earlier meeting, the visiting team also discussed their offer of support with cabinet ministers, outlining how the Institute could help the country with its priorities, and how best to deliver for the people of The Gambia.
